Gavin is my friend. We met on the first day of 7th grade. We started playing music together in 8th grade.
A couple months after we met, me and a few friends made up a joke band called Substandard. Gavin was the only one who was as interested in it as I was. Eventually, in December of 2021, we started an actual band called Substandard with a drummer named Christopher. We didn't play original songs for most of our short existence. Our first performance was a Christmas concert where we played Sarajevo 12/24 by Trans Siberian Orchestra. There was a time when Christopher was too busy to rehearse with us, so me and Gavin continued Substandard as a duo until he could play with us again. We played the 8th grade talent show as a duo, doing a cover of Bird's Nest by The Garden. I was on drums and Gavin played my bass. When Christopher came back, we did a performance in the school cafeteria before school. The setlist was all covers:
Me and Gavin wrote a few songs and planned on recording an album called Mile 0. In June of 2022, Christopher left the band to focus on volleyball and Substandard broke up.
Around the time Substandard broke up, I met Ernie in marching band. I really wanted him to start a new band with me and Gavin. Gavin met Ernie seperately from me, I don't know how. Me and Gavin begged Ernie to join us for months, and then in March of 2023, he joined us and Turbid was formed.
